Why do businesses get websites and graphics designed?

There are lots of businesses that do or offer the same thing but they all do things very differently. To give you an example I will share with you the how and the why of my business, that being a web and graphic design company.

So WHY do businesses get websites and graphics designed? the short answer is mostly, advertising.

But contrary to popular belief advertising is not just putting an advert in the paper, sticking a poster on a street pole or getting a website. Advertising is what you do every day. Whenever you or your product interact with possible clients, you are advertising.

Let’s look at the HOW.
By nature, as humans, we all tend to judge by appearance. 

Consider what happens if you dress and act perfectly, but your business’s logo, business card or website is dressed like a shifty ex-con. Are people going to care if you have good prices, great value and friendly service, no, because they have already written you off and moved on to the next company. This is where I come in. My job is to put your business “in its Sunday best”. I make your business look respectable and professional to best suit your market so as to attract business instead of scaring it away.

How do we do that?
Ultimately we start with your logo. This doesn’t have to be super complicated, but it does HAVE TO be something you are proud to display and representative of your industry, your target market and where your business is at.

So WHY does all of this matter?
If your accounting firm believes strongly in going green and looking after our planet, your logo design should respect that and it will therefore attract similar people to your business…i.e. The people you want to be working for and with.   

Your logo then sets the tone, any other design elements borrow from this for their look and feel. If your business image is friendly and helpful then your website needs to be friendly and helpful, if your gothic clothing line is dark and mysterious your business card needs to be dark and mysterious. If your marketing material looks like it was done on the cheap or is out of date it can say the same thing as if your outfit was terribly out of fashion and cheap and nasty. You wouldn’t want to deal with customers in your old dirty clothes full of holes, so don’t let your website, your logo and your marketing material do the same.
